IBM Power 11 Models
Compare the current Power11 family by exact model, supported operating system, workload fit, and buying boundary.
Start with the operating system and the workload, then choose the Power11 model. The family name alone can send an IBM i project toward the wrong enterprise server.
IBM's initial Power11 rollout became generally available on July 25, 2025 with six systems. IBM expanded that lineup on July 24, 2026 with the compact S1112. The current family now spans seven distinct IBM model numbers across entry scale-out, mainstream scale-out, Linux-focused scale-out, and enterprise classes.
The exception to remember is E1150 9043-MRU. It runs AIX and Linux but does not support IBM i. IBM i buyers comparing enterprise systems should keep E1180 in a separate column instead of treating E1150 as its smaller sibling.
S1112 9242-21B
Compact entry scale-out. Start here for the smallest current Power11 footprint and P05 IBM i entry option.
S1122 9824-22A
Mainstream 2U scale-out. Start here when S1112 is too small but a 2U rack server still fits.
S1124 9824-42A
Larger 4U scale-out. Start here for P20 or P30 IBM i, 8 TB of memory, or broader I/O growth.
L1122 9856-22H
Linux-focused 2U scale-out for a Linux on Power project rather than IBM i or AIX.
L1124 9856-42H
Linux-focused 4U scale-out for larger Linux consolidation in the L-series.
E1180 9080-HEU
Enterprise high-end with IBM i, AIX, and Linux support for the largest critical estates.
E1150 9043-MRU
Enterprise midrange for AIX or Linux workloads that have outgrown scale-out. IBM i is not supported.
IBM Model S1112 9242-21B
IBM Model S1112 9242-21B is the smallest current Power11 rack server. The one-socket half-width 2U system is aimed at entry workloads across IBM i, AIX, and Linux. Its smaller format also suits branch and edge deployment.

Start with the S1112 9242-21B when you want the smallest current Power11 box, the ability to deploy rack or pair the planning with the 9242-21T tower sibling, or a compact mixed-workload system where IBM i stays small and Linux or AIX may grow around it.
IBM Model S1122 9824-22A
