FlashCore Module (FCM)
Also known as: FCM
IBM's custom NVMe drive for FlashSystem storage, performing inline compression and encryption in the drive controller. Not the same as Power11's internal NVMe U.2 or NED24 drives.
FlashCore Modules are IBM's purpose-built NVMe drives used in FlashSystem and Storage Virtualize based storage arrays, which attach to a Power11 partition externally over Fibre Channel SAN, not inside the chassis or through a direct-attached expansion drawer. IBM has shipped four FlashCore Module generations to date (FCM1 through FCM4), each cataloged across a 4.8 TB to 38.4 TB usable capacity range, with generation- and capacity-specific part numbers and IBM feature codes.
